Inspiration

I took Claire to the Discovery museum yesterday, and didn't bring my camera on purpose (I know, it's a travesty) because I wanted to devote my whole attention to her so we could play.  While there, I saw this quote on the wall and wanted to share.

"The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity.  You can do anything you decide to do.  You can act to change and control your life; and the procedure, the process is its own reward." -Amelia Earhart.

Wednesday's Words

“The starting point of great success and achievement has always been the same. It is for you to dream big dreams. There is nothing more important, and nothing that works faster than for you to cast off your own limitations than for you to begin dreaming and fantasizing about the wonderful things that you can become, have, and do.” - Brian Tracy

Wednesday's Words

A beautiful quote by a photography master.

"If a day goes by without me doing something related to photography, it's as though I've neglected something essential to my existence, as though I had forgotten to wake up."

-Richard Avedon

Wednesday's Words

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” - Mark Twain

*Wednesday's Words are a collection of quotes I find inspirational, and hope that you do too.

Wednesday's Words

This post by Seth Godin is absolutely brilliant. It can relate to all of us in anything we desire to accomplish in our lives. Thank you Seth. I needed to hear it.

"Validation is overrated
If you're waiting for a boss or an editor or a college to tell you that you do good work, you're handing over too much power to someone who doesn't care nearly as much as you do.
We spend a lot of time organizing and then waiting for the system to pick us, approve of us and give us permission to do our work.
Feedback is important, selling is important, getting the market to recognize your offering and make a sale--all important. But there's a difference between achieving your goals and realizing your work matters.
If you have a book to write, write it. If you want to record an album, record it. No need to wait for someone in a cubicle halfway across the country to decide if you're worthy."

Wednesday's Words

"Picasso was sitting at a table outside a Paris cafe. A woman came up to him and asked him to sketch her. He complied. After five minutes he finished. The woman asked what she owed him for the sketch. He said the equivalent $5,000. Aghast the woman said — “but it only took you five minutes!” Picasso replied — “no Madam, it took me my whole life.”

I read this on a photography forum today while Claire napped.  I like to read and learn as much as my little brain can handle. :) Anyway, I came across this quote and it struck me.  Although I have not devoted my entire life to photography, or my art, I think this quote can translate.

Post Edit: One more thing to add that I read today.  It is a great piece of wisdom and translates to anyone and their situation: "Don’t worry about things you can’t change. If you’re rowing a boat in the ocean, you are surrounded by water. You can do one of two things. You can sit there all day worrying about the big ocean, or concentrate on getting any water that slaps over the side of your boat out of it and back into the ocean where it belongs. Concentrate on the things you CAN do something about and forget the rest." - Scott Bourne

Wednesday's Words

"Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving.  What you have caught on film is captured forever... it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything." - Aaron Siskind

Wednesday's Words

As quoted by Master Oogway on my daughter's all-time-favorite-must-watch-every-single-day-or-else movie Kung Fu Panda: "Yesterday is history. Tomorrow's a mystery. Today is a gift.  That is why it's called the present."-Alice Morse Earle

Wednesday's Words

"To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury; and refinement rather than fashion; to be worthy, not respectable; and wealthy, not rich; to study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly...to listen to stars and buds, to babes and sages, with open heart; await occasions, hurry never...this is my symphony"
-William Henry Channing
