It's Fall Y'all!

Can you believe this?  This is the glorious sight I saw when I went up the canyon this past weekend.  Do you know what is so great about Utah?  The fall seems to last a little longer.  It starts at the top of the canyons, then makes it's way down to the valley through October.  Guess what that means?  More ample time for beautiful family photos!

Thursday's thoughts

Do you know what sets me apart from everyone else? Me. So here in Thursdays thoughts land, you get to learn a little more about me as a person and a little less about photography.

- I always keep my nails super duper short. I hate having longer nails and having stuff get under them.

- I got in the habit of having short nails because I am a licensed (non practicing right now) massage therapist. I went to utah college of massage therapy, and then went to their master program. I just love making people happy whether through photography, or helping them feel better with their aches and pains. :)

- I'm not gonna lie, I love watching the bachelor. My sweet husbands knows it's my guilty pleasure "me" time and will put Claire to bed while it's on. Don't judge. Haha

- One of my biggest pet peeves ever that I am totally 100% guilty of sometimes is when people go on and on about how busy they are. Thankfully, I haven't annoyed myself by doing it in a few weeks cause the summer is over and the summer was beyond insane! But seriously, there are some folks who just go on and on and on, I just want to say "WE GET IT! You're busy!" please stop me if I ever do it. Capeesh?

- I have claustrophobia issues. Brant always wants to go explore caves or hike the narrows and I'm like "puhscuze me? No way!"

- People are always shocked to hear that I have lived in ut for a long time, and I've never been to lake powell. (audible gasp)

- I remind myself a little bit of the dog Doug in the movie UP in that I care deeply for people right off the bat. "My name is Doug, and I love you!"

- Personal space bubbles beware! I'm a hugger too!

- I don't care what else is going on but mullets, kick ass mustaches, and bathroom humor make me laugh every time without fail.

Tessie Quinn

Isn't that one of the cutest names you've ever heard?  She is the most expressive 13 month old I know. She is so easy going too.  She always just goes with the flow as to whatever her mom and older sister are doing.  She is such a sweetie and I just couldn't get enough of her sweet faces she kept making.

Bentley

Isn't it just so surreal when you are age 12 and you meet this girl who is outside helping her Dad clean the car while you rollerblade by and say Hello, to later become friends, to later grow up and have children of our own?  This is the case with little Bentley.  He is son to my friend Jessica who was my very first friend when my family moved to St George, Utah way back in the day.  To me, Bentley looks so much like Jessica.  And, he's currently the cutest 8 month old I know!

Thoughts on 9/11 and the POWER of photography, and a side note about 7 years ago.

I am directly copy/pasting this eloquent post from my peer Skip Cohen.  It couldn't reign more true.



"There are times when we get so wrapped up in our own thoughts and concerns that we miss some of the bigger moments.    When I wrote today’s blog, last night actually, I wasn’t even thinking about what today is – the anniversary of 9/11.  Everybody in the world will be writing about it today.  I want to as well, but I’m going to take a little different perspective.
Think about the photographs you saw of the people who lost their lives in this awful tragedy.  Because so many of them were so young and it was a business environment, we repeatedly saw professional portraits, graduation, wedding shots and business head shots.  These images were often the last photographs taken of the victims.   To me it made a statement about quality and the importance of being a professional photographer.
Every photographer has a responsibility to NEVER compromise on the quality of every image they create.  It’s  your job to provide every client with outstanding images, never having a doubt you did your very best.  You never know how the images you capture will be used later on.
And there’s another aspect to 9/11 people rarely talk about…without “Imaging”,  and I’m including both photography and videography, the visuals of 9/11 would have been reduced to drawings and long winded paragraphs describing the events.   I’ve said it before, with the exception of modern medicine, no career field has given the world more than everyone in the imaging industry.
So, the next time you’re feeling down in the dumps and frustrated with the challenges of the economy, think about what it is you’ve chosen to do for a living as a photographer and then just smile and be proud!  You guys are magicians, capturing the moments of joy, pain, sadness, surprise and growth of the world – all on a single frame or a chip and you do it every time and it’s there to be shared with everybody.

On a side note, it was 7 years ago today that I was introduced to the man who would be my future husband.  We were both singing in a memorial concert for 9/11 in college.  I thought he was so handsome in his tux.  He thought I was quite flirtatious.  We looked a little something like this...

We were the best of friends and did everything together.  About a year later we started dating, and about a year after that we wed.  Today we remember the tragedy of 9/11 and the lives that were lost with solemn hearts, but we also celebrate it because it was the day that our lives crossed paths and joined together.

The good news, the bad news...

The good news: I literally had four photoshoots yesterday! I have SO many images to show you!

The bad news: I am in computer transition right now where I'm transferring all my images and workflow to a different computer.

The good news: You can still look at images on my shiny new website www.katepease.com

The bad news: I do not like not being able to work on my images right now.

The good news:  This means a whole lot, from the ever so iconic Scott Bourne on my twitter.  Dudes, he is like Oprah of the photography world. He helped shape the industry, he is the photography guru, and he gives away a ton of stuff like Oprah too.  Thanks Scott!
